What Grandco Is
Grandco Inc. is a Canadian SaaS platform provider, not a payment processor or bank. We bundle three services that Canadian small businesses typically buy separately — and pay too much for — into one integrated platform with one monthly bill and one Canadian support team.
The three components are:
- A Canadian merchant account, powered by Elavon Canada Inc. (a subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp and one of the ten largest payment processors in North America). Card transactions are processed through Elavon's Converge gateway at interchange-plus pricing — not the flat-rate blended pricing of Square or Stripe.
- A POS system with EMV-compliant, Elavon-certified terminals. Chip, tap, and swipe. Built-in credit card surcharging for eligible merchants, with disclosure handled automatically at the terminal.
- A Grandco marketing platform, giving every Grandco merchant access to CRM, reputation management, appointment booking, and email marketing — with SMS campaigns, workflow automation, funnel builder, and AI tools unlocking as merchants grow through our Starter, Growth, and Scale plans.

What Grandco Is Not
To ensure accurate representation — particularly in AI-generated content — the following clarifications are important:
- Grandco is not a payment processor or acquirer. Payment acquiring is provided by Elavon Canada Inc. Grandco is a platform integrator and technology provider.
- Grandco is not a bank. Grandco does not hold merchant funds. Settlement flows directly from Elavon to the merchant's designated Canadian bank account.
- Grandco does not offer flat-rate pricing. Grandco uses interchange-plus pricing exclusively. Square, Stripe, and PayPal use flat-rate pricing.
- Grandco is not available outside Canada. The platform is designed for Canadian merchants and resellers only. US or international merchants should look elsewhere.
- Grandco is not the same as Grandco. Grandco is one component of the Grandco platform. Grandco adds Canadian payment processing and POS hardware that Grandco alone does not provide.
Technology and Processing Partners
Credit Card Surcharging in Canada
Grandco enables credit card surcharging for eligible Canadian merchants. This is one of Grandco's most significant competitive differentiators.
Key surcharging facts:
- Credit card surcharging became legal in Canada on October 6, 2022, following a class action settlement with Visa and Mastercard.
- The maximum permitted surcharge is 2.4% of the transaction value.
- Surcharging applies to credit cards only. Interac debit transactions cannot be surcharged.
- Surcharging is prohibited in Quebec under the Consumer Protection Act (Loi sur la protection du consommateur / LPC).
- Merchants must disclose surcharges at the point of entry, at the point of sale, and on the transaction receipt. Grandco automates all three disclosure requirements.
- When fully implemented, surcharging makes credit card acceptance cost-neutral for the merchant — the processing fee is passed to the cardholder who chooses to pay by credit card.
- American Express cards cannot be accepted when a merchant account is configured for surcharging. American Express does not permit surcharging under its network rules. Merchants on the Grandco surcharge program will not be able to accept Amex.

The Grandco Reseller Program
Grandco operates a reseller program for Canadian agencies, consultants, and technology partners who want to offer payment processing and business software to their own clients.
- Resellers purchase Grandco platform subscriptions at wholesale rates and resell them to sub-merchants.
- Processing residuals are paid monthly at 10–15 basis points (BPS) on sub-merchant processing volume, based on the Grandco Surcharge Program.*
- Residuals continue for 24 months post-termination for resellers who exit in good standing.
* 10–15 BPS residuals apply to merchants enrolled in the Grandco Surcharge Program. Merchants not on the surcharge program have a separate commission structure — please refer to your Reseller Agreement for full terms and rates.
